ACCOUNT: how to GET A NEW ACCOUNT on the Sissa main cluster or RENEW it

What the account on the Sissa main cluster provides

The account provides the following facilities:

an e-mail account with username@sissa.it as address and firstname.lastname@sissa.it as alias;
remote SSH access to Sissa main cluster servers (example: ssh.sissa.it);
access to the ground floor shared workstations ⇒Sissa Main Building;
access to the sector's linux shared workstations ⇒Sissa Main & New Buildings at Miramare, Galileo, Bellavista;
possibility to register (Netreg) and to connect your laptop using the Sissa network ⇒Sissa Main & New Buildings at Miramare, Galileo, Bellavista, Stock;
possibility to register (WPA/WPA2) and to connect your laptop using the Sissa wireless network ⇒ Sissa Main & New Buildings at Miramare, Bellavista, Stock.

How to get a NEW account

To obtain an account:

1) you must fill in the Account Request Form, which can be obtained at the Scientific Secretariats or at the Computer Staff desks;
2) the person responsible for the accounts of your Sector must sign the form. Each Sector has one or more persons responsibles for the accounts, no other member of staff can sign the form;
3) please attach to the form a photocopy of your ID card or passport (pages with your photo and personal data).

The form must be clearly filled in using capital letters, so as to avoid any misunderstanding and possible errors in the account opening procedure that cause a waste of time to the user and to the staff. The form duly and fully completed and signed is to be handed over to the Computer Staff, room 29 (ground floor), before 13.30. The account will normally be operational the same day at 14:30. After 13.30 the account will be operational the next working day.

The username for the new account must be, without exception, made up by the surname or by the initial part of this. First names or nicknames will not be accepted.

How to get an account renewal

To change the expiration date of an account, it is sufficient an e-mail sent by the person responsible for the accounts of your Sector to: accounting@sissa.it with the new expiration date.

Note that, due to Italian laws, people who do not have a justified relationship with the School CANNOT obtain/maintain a SISSA account, as communicated in the Users' Committee of June 2007 (Italian only).

If you forget your password

For those who cannot remember their passwords, and who are not personally known by the computer staff, it is necessary:

to request the new password by producing a document to the helpdesk personnel, or
the person responsible for the accounts of your Sector, or a person of the scientific staff that you know, must ask the new password for you, via e-mail, to accounting@sissa.it.

Please remember, we can not send an “explicit” password by e-mail.
